Scott Myers completed his project while Simbad Romero brings a new style of wine to the region

The wine sector in Ronda continues to grow. Over the last year, several wineries have presented new wines, and now the new facilities of Luisyana winery, the latest to arrive in the Ronda area, have also opened.

Although it had already launched its first red wine and has three hectares of vineyard, it did not have its own facilities, so it used the facilities of other wineries already present in the area to make its wine.

Scott Myers, a young American who exchanged New York City for the Ronda countryside to become a winegrower, chose the Arriate industrial estate to build his winery facilities. They are now only waiting to receive a group of barrels to complete the existing ones, where the wines will be aged.

These facilities, he said, “will allow us to experiment with our wines and also expand production”. In fact, they are already working on launching their first rose, although in this case it will be a small vintage of only 600 bottles.

They will also begin offering visits with tastings, either visiting only the winery or including a tour of the vineyards located near the well-known Acinipo archaeological site.

Simbad Romero, new wines

But the opening of Luisyana’s facilities was not the only novelty to arrive at the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025. Winemaker Simbad Romero launched his own line of extreme “free” natural wines.

He said it was a proposal that until now did not exist in the area, although some organic wines are made there. “People who know the wines I make at Mythopia or in Galicia, with which we have entered Diverxo, encouraged me to do something similar in Ronda, and I set off on the adventure.”

Specifically, it is a sparkling wine, orange wine, red and white Moscatel. These wines have no ageing of any kind and, in just five months from the grape harvest, have reached the market.

“It is something very wild. They are very good wines and totally free; it is simply lightly alcoholic grape juice,” Romero explained. They sit between 11 and 12 degrees of alcohol.

Only 880 bottles have been made in this first vintage, and they will not be sold in shops. Sales will be direct to consumers and to selected restaurants that believe in this type of product. Romero also intends to take them beyond Spain’s borders, where demand is still greater.

“The aim is to be in specific restaurants in Ronda, Malaga, Seville, Marbella, Madrid or Catalonia, and then to focus on export,” said Romero, who is convinced of his commitment to this type of wine.
